Practical aspects of this important topic applied to digital health are among the modules to be covered during the online initiative that addresses different topics in the telehealth universe

Aiming to fill an important gap in the digital health training market, Saúde Digital Brasil, an association founded in 2020 that brings together the largest digital health players in the country, recently launched, with the support of Galen Academy, the first course on best practices in telemedicine and telehealth in Latin America. In the Distance Learning (EaD) format, it deals with different topics within the digital health universe, Information Security and Personal Data Protection: Practical Aspects Applied to Digital Health being one of them.

The objective of the initiative, which focuses not only on healthcare professionals who use technology to provide care in their specialties, but also on managers of clinics, hospitals, laboratories, among others, as well as representatives from other areas who wish to understand this promising market, is to help ensure that the journey is successful from start to finish, enabling not only quality care but also a better clinical outcome.

According to Victor Prata, coordinator of the SDB Information Security and Data Protection Working Group, data protection and information security are areas of support for any business. This is especially critical when it comes to digital health, with a gigantic and scalable volume of sensitive and critical information. In addition, it is important to emphasize that data security and privacy are an important part of the business support and growth strategy, and are considered competitive advantages in the digital health market.

“Digital health is one of the sectors with the highest risk in terms of information security and data protection, starting with the fact that it is related to healthcare, which in itself is already sensitive and highly regulated, both at the government level and within the councils themselves. Any risk of a leak puts at risk not only patient safety but also the reputation of the institution. A patient who does not feel safe on a platform will not use it. In the same way, hospitals and health plans will not do business if they know about a data leak,” explains Prata.

Given this scenario, having a minimum level of knowledge to bridge the gap between what needs to be done and how to do it is mandatory. And these are exactly the needs addressed in the module coordinated by the executive. The classes aim to provide an understanding of the best way to get started and the best way to direct your efforts, addressing tools so that people with different levels of knowledge, including those who are still beginners in the subject, can advance.

“Anyone, whether an investor looking to enter the field, a doctor interested in diving into digital health and providing care using telemedicine, or an entrepreneur, recognizes the need to comply with the LGPD (General Data Protection Law) and invest in tools to prevent security incidents. However, they still don’t have an action plan and don’t know how to get there,” he emphasizes.
