Given the increase in cases of Covid-19 and flu syndrome and with the goal of optimizing care, ensuring greater agility and quality in the service, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) advises the population to first seek the telemedicine service or family health units (USFs), thus relieving pressure on the Emergency Care Units (UPAs).
People with flu-like symptoms and/or fever, headache, dry cough, sore throat, diarrhea, smell and/or taste disorders, among other suspicious symptoms, should contact the numbers 3218-9214 (telephone) or 98654-6340 (WhatsApp).
In addition, through the service, doctors can issue a medical certificate for absence from work, depending on the patient's clinical condition. This way, the citizen does not need to leave home to request the medical certificate.
Mild and moderate cases should be treated at the USFs, which are open from 7 am to 11 am and from 12 pm to 4 pm. Urgent and emergency cases should seek other treatment options, such as hospitals and the four Emergency Care Units: Valentina, Bancários, Cruz das Armas and Oceania (Aeroclube).
“We are experiencing an overload in the UPAs, where approximately 60% of the care is for people with mild symptoms, people who would not necessarily need in-person care. For this, we provide the telemedicine service. In this environment, you can receive your certificate, ask your questions, and you will not be left without care,” explained the executive secretary of Health of João Pessoa, Luís Ferreira Filho.
According to the secretary, the vast majority of patients being treated at the UPAs have flu-like symptoms. “If you have flu-like symptoms but are mild, you do not need to seek emergency care. You can call the city's telecare service or the family health unit closest to your home. This avoids overcrowding at the UPA reception areas. This initial care, for those with mild symptoms, can be done remotely. There are several teams working to treat these patients,” emphasizes Luís Ferreira Filho.
And to optimize care for the population, the Municipal Health Department made three more nurses available for each UPA, to carry out triage and provide guidance for remote care at the unit's door, where 'the initial assessment will be carried out and the patient who really needs medical care will be identified'.
In addition, an intensive care physician with experience with critically ill patients is also being sent to each UPA, who will help identify and relocate patients in the red and yellow areas.
